![]() Summer camps provide kids the opportunity to learn about nature, paddle a canoe, sleep in a tent or learn about farm animals. ![]() Most importantly, the park serves as an "outdoor classroom" to approximately 14,000 area school children who receive hands-on programs in Alabama history, agriculture, ecology, geology, botany, zoology and astronomy. Other areas of the park feature nature trails, elevated boardwalks, wildlife exhibits, wildlife observation areas, an Interpretive Center and planetarium, picnic areas, a playground and more. A crossroads community is under development that contains several historic structures that have been moved in from surrounding areas and restored. The park features a recreated 1890's farmstead with animals, crops, barns and agricultural equipment typical of a southeast Alabama (or "wiregrass region") family farm. The primary project of the foundation has been the development and operation of Landmark Park, a 100- acre facility enjoyed by approximately 43,000 visitors and school children each year. Dothan Landmarks Foundation is a private, non-profit organization chartered in 1976 to preserve the cultural and natural heritage of Dothan and surrounding areas in southeast Alabama.
